JFK Boulevard Columbus Bridge over Conrail and PATH

Owner: Hudson County, NJ
Location: Hudson County, NJ
Construction Cost: $4 million

HAKS provided complete design and construction management services for Contract No. 2 under New Jersey's Local Bridge Bond Act of 1999. Services addressed six county bridges which were all structurally deficient and in need of repairs.

The bridges are:

JFK Boulevard - Columbus Bridge, over Conrail and PATH at Journal Square, in Jersey City, NJ.  This structure has two open spandrel concrete arches with two concrete T-beam approach spans.

The project was completed in four phases:

Phase I:  Data Inventory and Review - Reviewed file information, inspected structures to verify and update conditions described in the most recent inspection reports, and prioritized rehabilitation and improvement needs.

Phase II:  Preliminary Design - Prepared 30% complete design plans and construction cost estimates.

Phase III: Final Design - Completed final design plans, specifications and cost estimates, and assisted in bid analysis.

Phase IV: Construction Management - Provide specialize engineering reviews, shop drawing reviews, erection drawing reviews and design services for emergency repairs, construction inspection, and administrative services for cost control, progress control and quality control.

All work has been coordinated closely with the county engineer, and other interested and affected parties (e.g., state and local police, fire departments, utility companies, railroads).
