Resident Engineering Inspection Services for Replacement of South Avenue Bridge over Staten Island Railroad

Owner: New York City Department of Transportation
Location: Staten Island, NY
Construction Cost: $ 3.7 million

HAKS inspected the construction to replace the South Avenue Bridge spanning Staten Island Railroad facilities. The work was done under contract with the New York City Department of Transportation.

Field work began with the demolition and removal of the superstructure, piers and abutments. Steel piles were then driven and new foundations constructed. A new superstructure was erected, which consisted of prestressed concrete slab units. Utility lines, both public and private, were installed on the new bridge and within the approaches.

HAKS' efforts in support of this construction consisted of managing the entire project, ensuring that all work was completed in accordance with contract requirements. Our field staff monitored the progress of the work, and used CPM techniques to compare it with the previously approved construction schedule. We coordinated with local agencies and utilities. HAKS was also responsible for change orders, payment requisitions and final closeout of the project.
