Construction of New Salt Storage Building

Two new "hi-arch gambrel" salt storage buildings were constructed, an 85'x80' facility at Larchmont in Westchester County and a 50'x96' facility at West Nyack in Rockland County. A 50'x75' storage addition was constructed at the Yonkers yard and a 45'x55' timber column storage addition was constructed at the Westchester maintenance area.  A mechanical water/oil separator and pressurized hot water heater were also installed at the Westchester area.  A new vehicle exhaust evacuation system complying with all environmental regulations was installed at the West Nyack headquarters.  Two existing dome-style salt storage buildings were demolished under this project.

HAKS provided a resident engineer and inspectors under this contract.  We ensured that all work was accomplished according to contract documents and Authority specifications. All administrative functions were completed including maintaining required documentation, payment requisitions, change orders and project close-out.

HAKS provided inspection services to the New York State Thruway Authority for the construction of an additional new 50' x 96' "hi-arch gambrel" salt storage building at the Nyack Section Maintenance Area off Exit 12.  In order to minimize the length of this project, HAKS proposed the same A+B bidding provisions where A is the unit price and B is the number of days anticipated for work.

The scope of the work also included:

• Provide inspection services for the demolition of the existing salt storage building and the installation of required utilites, such as new electrical circuits to accommodate the new receptacles
• Construct a 50' x 80' "hi-arch gambrel" salt storage building addition at the Yonkers Toll Barrier in Westchester County
• Modify all existing "hi-arch gambrel" buildings
• Inspect and replace the vehicle exhaust system in all 10 bays at West Nyack Garage
