Inspection and Evaluation of Highway Bridges Statewide, Connecticut

Location: Statewide, CT
Construction Cost: $7.5 Million (Fee)

HAKS is currently providing biennial inspection and evaluation services on highway bridges throughout the state of Connecticut for the 2004-2005 period. The project consists of routine and in-depth inspections of 106 state and town bridges, including underwater inspections of river crossings and mechanical and electrical inspections of movable spans. Our services include quality assurance (QA) on bridges inspected by others. Based on our performance, the Department of Transportation has extended our original contract for an additional two year period.

The scope of services for this project includes:

  • Performance of routine and in-depth inspections in accordance with the Connecticut Department of Transportation Bridge Inspection Manual (BIM)
  • Documentation of structure conditions in an inspection report
  • Preparation of maintenance memos for those structures needing repairs
  • Preparation of a "Quality Assurance Statement" and "QC Reports"
  • Participation of key personnel in training sessions, including the NHI Safety Inspection and
  • In-Service Bridges and appropriate railway safety training
  • Review of structure inspection files for pertinent background information and new developments
  • Preparation of detailed two-week schedules
  • Performance of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) as required
  • Completion of load rating computations, as required, in accordance with AASHTO Manual for Condition Evaluation of Bridges, as revised
